Procrastination is an emotion regulation problem
not a time management problem

Today, I would like to focus on the solution because

Procrastination is an emotional issue
Emotions of self-doubt
fear, uncertainty and insecurity

Or boredom, anxiety, stress and frustration
that you have related to a task

Procrastination is not merely
avoiding a task

It is a tactic to avoid ourselves and
the deeper underlying emotions of
regret and shame

As a result, the emo-monster
start bubbling up inside….

  • What if it is hard?
  • What if I do a bad job?
  • What if I am not smart enough?
  • What will people think of it?
  • What if I get it wrong?
  • What if this would hurt my reputation?
Or, what if I do a good job,
then I will be on the hook to do this forever?

Procrastination becomes a chronic habit

The inability to manage negative moods
around the task

We try to escape from the challenging emotions
and negative moods brought on by certain tasks

Overtime, chronic procrastination not only
diminishes our productivity
but has measurably destructive effects
on our mental, psychological and physical health.

So, let’s focus on the solution and start tapping for it!

How to tap for Procrastination! 

Step one: Select your specific tapping topic

Step two: Rate your intensity on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the highest)

Step Three: Where do you feel this intensity in your body?

Start Tapping the Karate Chop Point:

‘Even though I have so much resistance to start this task, I deeply and completely accept myself’

‘Even though I feel very overwhelmed when I think about this task, I am open and willing to free myself from this chronic habit of procrastination’

‘Even though I cannot manage my negative moods around this task, I accept who I am and how I feel’

Tap through all the Points:

  • I have so much resistance
  • I just don’t want to do it
  • I can’t start
  • I have all this self-doubt
  • and this intense fear
  • I am uncertain whether
  • I can do this successfully
  • What if I do a bad job?
  • I feel insecure
  • about my capabilities
  • and skill level to accomplish this
  • What if I am not smart enough?
  • I just want to avoid this altogether
  • Plus I feel also frustrated
  • and I have anxiety
  • What if it will be hard?
  • What if I fail?
  • What will people think if it?
  • What will people think of ME?
  • What if this will hurt my reputation?
  • It is so stressful
  • I don’t want to take the risk
  • to embarrass myself
  • and feel ashamed
  • In addition, what if I would do a good job?
  • Then I may be on the hook
  • to do this forever?
  • That would be so boring
  • I am not sure
  • how to manage
  • my negative emotions around this
  • it is so hard
  • I feel so overwhelmed
  • I so want to escape
  • from all these challenging emotions
  • and negative moods
  • around this particular task
  • I want to release
  • this chronic habit of self-sabotage
  • because I want to value myself
  • and feel worthy of a successful life
  • I want things to be easier for me
  • because easy is good for me too!
  • I look forward to finding
  • creative ways to empower myself
  • and imagine the good feelings
  • when this task is done
  • Celebrate my success and
  • acknowledge my inner power
  • to overcome my low-frequency emotions
  • and tap into the empowerment
  • of high-frequency states like
  • enthusiasm, focus and eagerness
  • I am ready to be free of this
  • chronic habit of procrastination
  • and access my personal power
  • and strength to transform
  • my negative moods
  • Today is a new day for me
  • Today is a new fresh beginning
  • I value my physical health
  • I value my mental health
  • I value my emotional health
  • I am ready to honor myself
  • and honor who I am
  • And that is the honest truth!
